I was born in Xi’an China where the Terracotta Warriors are. When I was a child, I went to 9 different primary schools in 3 different countries (China, Canada, Australia). In 2013, I packed all my belongings in 2 suitcases and moved to London permanently from San Francisco.
Finally, after all the moves and struggles, I feel settled and stable in my life. I am a 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian entrepreneur with my own branding agency which I started when I was 26 years old. I have worked hard to build a loving community around me and focused a lot on rebuilding my confidence in the past few years.
Whenever I go back to China, I’m always told that I’m too fat and that if I lost weight and wore more makeup, I would attract a husband. In China, women over 27 are considered leftover women. It’s still challenging to navigate the different cultures, especially with my very international background. I feel that the sense of home is allusive at times, and it really must come from within rather than be based on a place.
